2012 London Olympics: Failure After Failure!
I must say I was happy the Olympics would be held in London this year. I enjoy the Queen a lot—not so much her family but she’s an awesome world figure and can’t wait to see her officially “open the games.”
But there does seem to be just one problem after another and the games haven’t even started yet, well some basketball here and there but the opening ceremonies aren’t until this evening.
No A/C
Yes, for some strange reason Olympic teams from visiting countries have no air-conditioning, but the Brits do. I watched a video about the A/C problem which you can find here and if London is having an unusually hot summer then this country should have foreseen and prepared for this problem.
I don’t think it’s a “setup” on purpose as many others are reporting, I just don’t think the organizers thought it would be this hot!
Flag Flub
Apparently, North Korea was offended when their women’s soccer team realized the South Korean flag was placed on the scoreboard before the game began. Officials apologized but this is a big flub in my mind.
Again, this is a whopping mistake from the Olympic organizers. Is an apology enough? Who’s running the show here?
Cable Car Disaster
Apparently there’s a cable car called the Emirates Air Line (worth 44 million pounds) which crossed the Thames River. Apparently the cable car system quit working stranding more than 60 passengers 300 feet in the air in 88 degree heat for a full 40 minutes.
Spectators said the passengers looked “horrified” and “terrified” and wanted their 14 pound entry fee back. I guess that won’t happen but this too is a major London 2012 Olympic mistake!
Frying the Olympic Swimmers
Lastly, the Associated Press reported that since the heat wave in London the Aquatics Center where all the swim meets will occur is also having some problems. According to the Associated Press, the heat wave “has created a greenhouse effect that sent temperatures around the pool deck and in the stands soaring to more than 85 degrees Fahrenheit." Of course Olympic organizers were working on this flub too.
What’s Next?
I’m not sure how all these problems will affect the actual games. Athletes are playing them down but that’s just how athletes are—strong, proud and enduring.
I wonder if back when Charles Barkley was playing Olympic basketball if he’d stand for no A/C? Hmmm? Probably not and yep, we’d all hear about it!
